COVID-19 and our project

In common with many projects, we are adapting our workplan to meet the emerging information needs for tackling COVID-19.  For example, we believe that there may be scope to look at the extent of discarded Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when we carry out our environmental transect work and thereby how waste management may be affected by and implemented in the pandemic.  Similarly, our work looking at product packaging around food markets may be adaptable to better understand social mixing when people buy food.

This photograph taken on April 10, 2020, shows latex gloves and a mask discarded on a pavement in Lille, northern France, during a strict lockdown in France, in place to attempt to stop the spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19). – Since the start of the Covid 19 pandemic, city cleaning services in the northern French city have been increasingly picking up masks and gloves that people are throwing on the ground after use.
