On the week of October 09, 2023, the University of Southampton hosted the Water and Waste Project’s final in-person meeting. Notable attendees included members from various partner institutions: University of Southampton—Prof. Jim Wright, Dr. Farouk Umar, Moses Asamoah, Prof. Allan Hill, and Dr. Pete Shaw (virtually present); University of Ghana—Prof. Mawuli Dzodzomenyo and Mrs. Josephine Amoah; JOOUST—Prof. Lorna Okotto; and VIRED International—Joseph Okotto Okotto. Additionally, Zhangliang Deng presented his Ph.D. study, focusing on the spatial configuration of Kisumu’s piped water network. Dr. Winfred Dotse-Gborgbortsi (Water and waste project associate) also joined intermittently.
The meeting commenced with comprehensive updates from each participant concerning their respective project tasks and student projects, followed by collaborative discussions. The discourse primarily centred on potential project outcomes and forthcoming publications. Deliberations also encompassed the planning of dissemination strategies and future project initiatives, emphasising the importance of final project steering and stakeholder committee meetings across partner countries.
Concluding the session, a thorough review of the project’s next steps, end-of-project requirements, and vital decisions took place, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the project’s trajectory and commitments.
